What is WhatsApp Business API? A short guide for clinics

Updated:

WhatsApp Business API is Meta's official infrastructure for businesses. This article explains why a clinic uses it, how it differs from the app and what stays with the clinic during setup.

App and API: what is the difference

The WhatsApp Business app runs on one phone, in one person's hands. WhatsApp Business API connects the same number to software: messages land in the panel, the AI assistant replies, and your team writes from the same number.

The two also work together. With Coexistence, your number is used both in the app on your phone and in the panel; your past conversations stay where they are.

The number and the account belong to the clinic

The WhatsApp Business account is opened in the clinic's name, and the clinic owns it. The software provider connects the account technically.

If you want to change provider, the account and the number stay with you.

The 24-hour rule

Within 24 hours of the patient's last message, you reply in free text. Once that time is up, WhatsApp carries only a template message approved by Meta.

That is why an appointment reminder is a template. Its text is approved in advance; only the name, date, time and clinic name go into it.

What the clinic is asked for during setup

Meta asks for the clinic to be verified as a business. A tax certificate, the business name and a web address are enough.

If the documents are ready, the connection is completed during the setup call. Our team connects the number.

What changes for the clinic

Messages arriving at night and at the weekend get a reply. Several people work from the same number. Who wrote what is visible in the panel.

Your number and the name your patients know stay the same.

How MedorAI works on this infrastructure

MedorAI answers the incoming message with your clinic's information, finds a suitable time in your calendar and books the appointment.

The moment your team types into the conversation, MedorAI steps aside. AI answers; the doctor decides.
